睡眠並不是單一狀態,睡眠是由兩種「性質截然不同」的狀態所組成。
非快速動眼期睡眠(Non-REM Sleep)
由四個階段組成:
第 1、2 階段
・淺層睡眠
・容易被喚醒
第 3、4 階段
・深層睡眠
・對身體修復與恢復至關重要
快速動眼期睡眠(REM Sleep)
・與清晰、生動的做夢有關
・具有特殊的大腦腦波活動
・身體會出現暫時性的肌肉抑制(防止實際做出夢中動作)
通常在入睡約 60 分鐘後 開始出現,每次持續約 30 分鐘。
完整的一個睡眠週期約為 90 分鐘,在非快速動眼期(Non-REM)與快速動眼期(REM)之間交替進行。
隨著夜間睡眠進行,REM 睡眠所占比例會逐漸增加,這反映出睡眠結構(sleep architecture)的動態轉換。

・20–25% 為深層睡眠
・20–25% 為快速動眼期(REM)

Sleep is not a single event.
Sleep is, in fact, two separate events with very different characteristics.
NON-REM SLEEP
Consists of four stages:
Stage 1 & Stage 2

ㆍCrucial for physical recovery
REM SLEEP
Associated with vivid dreaming, unique brain wave activity and temporary paralysis of the body.
Generally begins 60 minutes into the sleep cycle and lasts around 30 minutes.
A full sleep cycle lasts about 90 minutes, alternating between Non-REM and REM sleep.
As the night progresses, the proportion of REM sleep increases, reflecting shifts in sleep architecture.
Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep
